Gum Disease Treatment

Comprehensive Gum Disease Treatment

Gum disease, also known as periodontal disease, is a widespread condition that can impact individuals of all ages. Left untreated, it can lead to severe oral health issues. At Hometown Dental, we offer specialized treatments for every stage of gum disease, helping to restore and maintain your oral health.

Why Treat Gum Disease Early?

Gum disease is a progressive condition that starts with gingivitis (mild inflammation of the gums) and can advance to more severe stages, such as periodontitis, if not properly managed. Early detection and treatment are key to preventing the damage caused by gum disease, which can lead to tooth loss and other serious complications.

Our Gum Disease Treatment Services Include:

  • Gingivitis Treatment: We provide non-invasive treatments to reverse early-stage gum disease and restore gum health.

  • Scaling and Root Planing: For moderate gum disease, we offer deep cleaning procedures to remove plaque and tartar buildup below the gumline, promoting healing.

  • Advanced Periodontal Care: For more severe cases, our team offers advanced therapies, including surgical options to reduce gum inflammation and repair gum tissue.

Gum Disease Information

  • Gum disease, also known as periodontal disease or periodontitis, refers to an infection that affects the gums (gingiva) and the bone supporting your teeth. Healthy gums and bone are essential for holding your teeth securely, so early detection and treatment of periodontitis are crucial to prevent long-term damage.

FAQs

What are signs of gum disease?

  • Gingivitis is the first stage of gum disease, often marked by mild symptoms such as redness, swelling, or slight bleeding of the gums. While these early signs may seem minor, if left untreated, the infection can spread to deeper tissues, leading to irreversible damage to your gums and bone. Some other symptoms can be bad breath, sore teeth when biting/chewing, tooth mobility, etc.

What causes gum disease?

  • Gum disease occurs when plaque and tartar build up on your teeth, creating an environment for harmful bacteria to thrive. These bacteria irritate and inflame the gums, leading to various stages of gum disease. Several factors can contribute to gum disease, including poor oral hygiene, smoking, underlying medical conditions, and genetics.

What is the treatment for gum disease?

  • Deep cleanings, also called scaling and root planing, are done to remove plaque, tartar, and other bacteria from below the gum line and in between the teeth. After being removed, the root surfaces will be smoothed out to promote gum reattachment and prevent further buildup.
